As chairman of the Waltham Abbey Town Partnership our committee member Paul Violet has had a busy month.

Having arranged his eighth annual Pancake Race event in Sun Street Waltham Abbey, he also oversaw the culmination of 5 year’s work on the Heritage Trail Board project.

The pancake races were reckoned by many to be the best yet, helped of course by perfect weather but also the participation of a great number of people, from the under 5s from the local nursery, to the over 80s from a local care home!

The Heritage Trail Boards is a project that has needed the input of a group of local experts as well as Paul’s determination to ensure that the work done by those experts eventually became the reality of actual historical information boards placed in relevant areas around town.

Permissions from 12 different bodies had to be obtained to both use graphics and place the boards where required.

An invitation only introductory event was held recently where Paul was able to explain the tortuous route taken to bring the process to a satisfactory conclusion, and where information about the boards was given by two of the expert committee, as well the the artist that Paul commissioned for some of the boards.

Pictures show Paul and his pancake helpers, and both explaining the history of the Boards plus with the mayor of Waltham Abbey at the Heritage event.
